GERD Symptoms

Heartburn
is acid reflux induced burning sensation traveling up in the retrosternal area, which is relieved by antacid. -
Regurgitation is when the
stomach contents moves into the throat.

Dysphagia, which is difficult,
and/or painful swallowing (alarm symptom!).

Chest pain that may mimic angina
and may worsen during a cardiac stress test.

ENT symptoms of hoarseness of
voice, chronic morning often one-sided sorethroats, frequent throat
clearing, and a feeling of a lump in the throat ("globus
hystericus").

Pulmonary Complications: Nighttime asthma,
recurrent aspiration pneumonia, especially in elderly, bedridden
patients in nursing homes, and patients with chronic pulmonary lung
disease.

Barrett's
Esophagitis and Carcinoma of the
Esophagus are the most severe sequelae of long-term,
untreated reflux.
